Artist, dancer et choreographer, Joëlle Ribant has become a reference in the art of American Tap Dancing in Belgium. She’s been teaching tap for 20 years now, thank to her reputation based on her accurate technique and original choreographies. Daughter of the famous clowns «The Ribanos», she was immerged in a multi-disciplinary environment since her birth.
Trained in the United States and Europe in the 70’s, Joëlle Ribant has approached and worked with great names in tap dancing such as Rusty Frank (usa), Pam Sausa (usa), Walter Freeman de « Riverdance » (usa), Victor Cuno (fr), Philippe Roux (fr), Pascal Hulin (fr), Lane Alexander (usa), Amy Benatar (bel), Martine Hébette (bel), Gerald Hampel (all), Heather Cornell (usa), Grégory Filler and Shane Preston from « Tap Dogs », Anthony Nolan (Lord of the Dance),… In 1979, Joëlle wins the European Tap Dance Championship in Paris with her brother Guy, under the Duet « Sam & Sandy ».
They’ve danced through the world since then (France, Benelux, Morocco, Spain, Germany, China, Viet man, Italy, Greek land and Yougoslavia) and keep dancing today in many events. Joëlle Ribant has followed and organised many international tap dance workshops and has been teaching in great places (Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel, stage de Neufchâteau, stage de Spa, Arabesque à Anvers, Karys Dance Center, Alix Riga, Joies de la danse, Hamid Targui, …). She’s signed the choreographies of different movies, shows and video clips : The history-musical « Thyl Uilenspiegel » Villers-la-ville (2000), créations for the “Théâtre Loyal du Trac”, Théâtre Big Bang, European Theater Company, Happy 2000 (Royal Palace in Brussels), For the movies « Le mur » from Alain Berliner and « Théo et Marie » from Henry Helman, As a dancer in « La bande à Jacco » with Annie Girardot, Video-clips directed by Jean-Pierre Berckmans, for Claude Maurane, Alain Souchon, William Sheller. Other TV Shows in 2003 and 2004 for RTL-TVI (Télévie), For the band « Ixhor » with the solist Chantal Nicaise, for « Cape Cod Théâtre » in a play « C’était hier » from Harold Pinter (january 2005). Also musician (trompet/xylophon), Joëlle was part of many groups as « The Keyhole Conspiration Big Band », « The Flybusters » (trompet/vocal), and the rock band « Bluff ». She was a member of the European Commission of Irish Dancing. 10 years ago, Joëlle Ribant ceated her own dans school « Tap Show Company ». A Company was born from her most talented students « The Tap Show Company » and Musical is still her greatest passion. Creations have not stopped since with shows like On stage, please! (1992), Larguez les amarres ! (1993), Black’n White (1995) also adaptations as Mary Poppins (1999), Le Magicien d’Oz (2001), and End-of-Year students shows : I Can do that (1998), Nervous Feet (1999), Drummy Shoes (2001), The Shoes Must Go On ! (2003), Tarata-Tap ! (2005), Bigfoot (2007) and Musical Airlines (May 2009).
